The R.D.C. Youth Arts Initiative

Performing and visual arts are key elements of society that move culture forward. When children learn how to play instruments, paint, or dance, for example, it expands their curiosity about the world. Their confidence also expands knowing that they are capable of making meaningful contributions to humanity through showcasing their talents and sharing their new found learnings around various art forms.

Youth Arts in Our Digital World

In an increasingly digital world, the role of analog art forms are ever important. When a child steps away from their handheld devices to foster a new skill, they become more present and aware of their own interests and cognitive development. Balance is key, as the aim is to ensure children are prepared to manage the technological demands of today without purely being absorbed by them.

For The Leaders of Tomorrow

The Regal Deviance® Company is a digital marketing agency that helps creative professionals thrive online. In an effort to give back to the arts community that fueled the overall vision for the brand, RDC has now launched an educational arts resource for creative youth, known as The R.D.C. Youth Arts Initiative. The program kicks off with the Performing Arts by offering private flute lessons virtually to students.

Flute Instruction

Instrumental music requires more brain power than many other disciplines because it activates almost every part of the brain. The flute, in particular, is a dynamic woodwind instrument that is equal parts magic and mechanics. Your child’s participation in private flute lessons is a great supplement to enrollment in an in-school band or orchestra program. It may also serve as an introduction for those interested in enrolling in such a program in the future.

The mechanics of flute playing is where their journey will begin. This simply means your child will learn the proper technique for holding the instrument, making a quality sound, and basic music theory which will provide them the ability to begin reading sheet music and audibly producing what was written. In later lessons, the magic, or otherwise referred to as the musicality, of playing the flute will be discussed. Introductory conversations about vibrato and sound dynamics will also take place allowing them to stand out and further excel in the performance of their craft.

About the Instructor

Ayanna T. Harris is the founder and lead client marketer at The Regal Deviance® Company. She is also an experienced flutist that began her training at the young age of eight years old. Excited to join her public school’s concert orchestra, she began training with her father and master flutist, Kenneth M. Harris Sr. He provided private flute lessons to her that supplemented her in-school learning as a budding musician. These lessons progressed throughout the years and hit many pinnacles.

At just the age of 14, Ayanna performed with her father at Carnegie Hall and later, at age 19, she performed as a featured soloist at Lincoln Center. Both of these key achievements took place in the heart of New York CIty’s well renowned music scene. In the midst of that, Ayanna became passionate about high school marching band where she began as a marching flutist and later transitioned to playing piccolo. For her third season on the field, Ayanna was a featured piccolo soloist garnering stellar remarks from judges week to week throughout the travel season.

Today, Ayanna is enthusiastic about sharing her love of music with children, as it was a defining skill set that brought her much joy and opportunity.

Ayanna T. Harris was featured at Lincoln Center in New York City as a solo flutist at the age of 19. This video is a snippet of the performance.
