Lyricist, AJ McQueen, brings his “Sorry Ma, I Was On Tour” multi-city tour to New York City. Hosted at the legendary SOB’s venue, which is short for “Sounds of Brazil”, McQueen brought healing vibes that exuded what he calls “GodBody Energy”. McQueen was preceded by several acts including performer Seraiah Nicole, singer Rissa The Righter, singer Dyna Edyne, and poet Kira J. When AJ McQueen took the stage, he entered with dark glasses, his hands draped in afrocentric rings, and his long locs pulled back equipped with the stories of his music to tell. He was accompanied on stage by a drummer, bass guitarist, and DJ. He performed meaningful records such as his 4:44 in Houston, Misunderstood, be light, Spark, and Routine.

The show reached its peak when he rapped his most streamed record called, “Same” and to the audience’s satisfaction, he performed it twice. The second time, he rapped directly to a female audience member that was positioned in the front row. Over time, the dark glasses disappeared and the neatly tied locs, which he mentioned, he’s been growing for nearly two decades, came forward. There were moments of tears and healing among the audience members and an overall air of positivity throughout the venue. As a part of the stage set, a street sign was pulled center stage which stated “Wellston”, a rough part of St. Louis, Missouri where AJ McQueen originated. The sentiment was, “I can make it anywhere if I made it out of Wellston.”

Here you will find an assortment of key photographic moments from the memorable show including the opening acts and the main event, AJ McQueen. All photos were captured by myself, The Regal Deviance® Company founder and CEO, Ayanna T. Harris. Be sure to listen to AJ McQueen’s latest album release, “Sorry Ma, I Was Distracted” as you view the photos for a glimpse of the live experience.
